HACKING MY EDUCATION

This semester I would like to be more involved in the readings we do, and when I say that I want to actually ask more questions and get more involved in the conversation. I would also like to get ideas for pieces for my masterpiece by learning through whatever we will be learning about in class.

Great Expectations Reading

Reading Great Expectations it makes me think that this is what we all do. We expect expectations that are going to be great and sometimes they don't happen that way, most of the time. It's a very realistic story. I like Pip he reminds me of every one of us hoping for the best.

ALL THAT DAVID COPPERFIELD KIND OF CRAP

The first line of J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye is this:

"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth."

When J.D. Salinger in "Catcher in the Rye" says "and all that David Copperfield kid of crap," I now what that means because David Copperfield was illusions such as what Great Expectations is.

conversations in network about masterpiece

Ashlyn Bishop: competition, body image & media advertising
I talked to Ashlyn Bishop about what she was thinking about for her masterpiece because her topic is so controversial and even though both men and women have problems with body image. I think it's seen more in women. I want to maybe do a blog post about this for my blog so I think talking to her about her masterpiece is going to be great because I can collaborate.

Sierra Sanchez: Fashion design/ merchandising
I talked to Sierra Sanchez about what she was thinking about for her masterpiece because hers is about fashion and it is related to my project. She told me this
"I have different ideas I haven't really focused on just one I was thinking of maybe doing a fashion show type of thing and getting other people that have different big ideas that want to work together on something like if there's a person who wants to go into music or filming doing the background for the show or someone who wants to be some type of coordinator to set up the show and then I can style the people that want or I ask to be in it! or I was thinking I just might do something with picking some people to wear different types of clothing styles or just different articles of clothing and present that to the class and I wanted to make a fashion blog where I take pictures of the outfits I wear or friends that I style and put them on there with a little writing section explaining each look and just having little fashion tips on there and inspirations that I have."

I think I can collaborate with Sierra by maybe interviewing her for my blog or maybe something else :)

Connor Rickman: Business & Entrepreneurship
I talked to Connor Rickman about what his project was and he doesn't know exactly what he wants to do but right now he has been selling items on ebay. I don't know what or how I want to collaborate with him but I definitely want to!

Masterpiece update!

  • Describe your topic;
My topic is women leaders (types, strategies, fashions, clothing)
  • Explain how you came to be interested in your topic and why you care about it so much;
I am interested in my topic because when I grow older I hope to be a great leader like the ones that came before. Equality for both men and women is what I and others achieve for and I think doing my masterpiece on just women leaders will show me how to become successful in my own life. Including the fashion/clothing side to this project will help me because I would like to major in Fashion Merchandising/Business in college and would love to become a buyer for a well known store or CEO of my own company.
  • Predict how learning about this topic will enrich your life and provide value for learners and others in your community who read/see what you do;
Learning about this topic for me I hope I learn what type of leader I am right now and how I want to enrich myself with  other qualities & knowledge. I hope for others in my community who see my masterpiece, I hope they get a sense of who I am and what I want to become and see my thinking process.
  • List the academic disciplines and/or skills the topic requires (for example, game development requires an understanding of psychology, math, coding, literature, music, history/social studies, and many others);
I think some topics that my masterpiece with entail is literature, business skills, public speaking, computer knowledge, journalism, media, communication, gender studies, human history, feminist philosophy, arts, fashion design, etc.
  • Map out how you will begin learning about your topic (it's OK if you don't have a formal plan yet-- in fact, learning how to make a plan in this area may well be your first step);
-Make tumblr specifically for this project
-Find women leaders that I idol and reach out to them
-Blog about my findings/Learn how to use the internet & technology better
  • Describe the resources you will need (wave the magic wand I just handed you and imagine for a moment that time, money and access are not obstacles. Who do you want to meet?  What materials do you need?  What types of experiences will you seek?);
I want to record and picture the people I meet and be able to put them on my blog like "interviews," so I will need to find a camera that I can use on my own. I don't really want to get someone who does video because I feel like it would be harder to find time to do the things I want to do in a timely manner. I want to find people that I admire so I need to do that on my own, but maybe suggesting people that I would find interesting will help.
  • Consider which tools you will use to tell your story.  Will you continue posting on your course blog?  Will you start a new blog, and if you do, will it be on Blogger, or WordPress, or Tumblr, or another platform?  Will you use other media and collaborative tools to curate, remix, and share your learning?  Do you have ideas about what would be cool but you're not sure what's out there?
I will make a different blog (tumblr) specifically for this project. I really want to do an online "fashion show" type of thing that I would just keep adding on to on my blog.

More of my ideas :

Teenage angst just like Hamlet. maybe.

Today in class I was reminded of the phrase "Teenage Angst." I was compelled to the words because it had so much meaning today and possibly everyday not only my teenage life but also when I grow older. The definition of teenage angst on Urban Dictionary because it was the first site that came up while writing this post had the definition. The definition that Urban Dictionary gave me was "When teenagers, for any number of reasons combined with their hormones and stress from school, get depressed. Contrary to popular belief, some teenagers actually do have it rough and have to deal with shit most adults don't have to. Other teens don't and just like to pretend they do. Either way, everyone has a right to be pissed off." Of course on Urban Dictionary anybody can put their own definition on but I think that definition was spot on, just not the adult part. I believe that we are all going to have problems and today was just one of those days that EVERYTHING that could possible be bought up got brought up; family, "friends" or maybe let's call them peers, and everything came colliding in like you are trapped under a rock and you can't get help. We all do have problems whether if it's fighting your own internal battle or the one in the real world, but sometimes my problems seem bigger than anybody else's. I am not typing this post for anyone to feel pity, but I thought this post was so relevant for everything that life is throwing at us today, tomorrow, and yesterday. Life is hard and we all have teenage angst. It sucks.
